The Top 3 Vertical Jump Training Programs for Jumping Higher

Ever heard the saying: “Practice makes perfect“?
Well, it’s not entirely true.
‘Cause when it comes to the subject of vertical jump training, it’s not enough to just practice jumping for a sheer amount of time, you also have to be smart about the way you do it.
Believe it or not, every pro basketball player nowadays has a strategic training plan specifically dedicated to increasing/maintaining his vertical jump.
Because the game has become so reliant on athletics these days that if you can’t jump when jumping is necessary, you won’t be able to score/finish/rebound or any other thing that winners do for that matter.
Therefore, you need to dedicate time to developing your vertical in order to be ready to jump at any moment, in any circumstance.
For that reason, I’ve put together this little post to bring to you what I believe to be the best vertical jump programs for maximizing your ability to jump higher.
Without boring you too much, let’s cut straight to the chase and go to the meat and potatoes.
The Best Vertical Jump Program
#1 – Vert Shock
Man, this was a tough pick, but the top spot and my No. 1 pick as the best overall jump program goes to Vert Shock, the famous program by Adam Folker and Justin Jus Fly Darlington.
Hands down, this program really is the best and most advanced jump training system I’ve ever trained with.
Of all the vertical jump programs I’ve tried until today, Vert Shock is the most powerful one, and it really raises the bar to a new height.
Vert Shock is a new training system that has revolutionized the way basketball players train their vertical leap.
It takes a new approach to increasing your vertical and uses “Shock Training” as the main method of workout. The idea here is to shock your nervous system and make rapid gains by activating the type-2 fibers (the fast twitch muscle fibers) to fire very quickly.

At first, this might seem a bit odd, as the program relies entirely on plyometrics, but the results with Vert Shock speak for themselves. People all over the world reported gains of up to 15 inches with this system, and it’s got a lot of positive reviews by newborn 40-inch leapers.
In my case, Vert Shock has shot me up to a 39.5 inch vertical (previous record with the Jump Manual was 37″), and it did so faster than any other program. So as it turns out, this system works — but more importantly, it works fast!
When you purchase Vert Shock, you get access to a members only area where you can log in from any device, that way, you can take it with you on your mobile/tablet and watch all the workouts while you’re working out in the gym.
The members area also includes other good tools like a tracking app to track your progress, and you even get access to a forum where you can interact with other jumpers, ask questions, and see how other members are doing with their training.
But these are all just extra bonuses and not the main reason why you’d want to get this program.
The most important part of Vert Shock is its workouts.
Let me tell you right now, the workouts are not easy. On many days you’ll feel sore after doing them. However, they’re very powerful, and you see results quickly.
This program was designed with the help of professional dunker Justin Jus Fly Darlingtonafter a lot of years of assembling different training methods to improve his dunk skills further.
As you can see, jumping high has paid off for Jus Fly, as here he is winning the Nike World Dunk Contest.
What’s really great about Vert Shock is that everything within the program is outlined in an easy to understand way. There’s a video library that contains all the workouts, and each exercise has a video that explains specifically the correct movement and how to execute it properly.
The program is an eight-week course split into three phases (Pre-Shock, Shock, and Post-Shock), and although it seems short, it’s so effective that I actually recommend repeating it for the best results (I know I’m going to).

#2 – The Jump Manual
Coming up 2nd on my list is the very program that my website was founded on and is in the name of it…
Yep, as you can see, The Jump Manual is my No. 2 overall pick for increasing your vertical jump.
I feel like I have to give it the credit it deserves, after all, I named my blog after it.
It’s not without a reason that I called my site The Jump Manual Blog, as I’ve had an enormous success with this program and it took my game to a new threshold – it was the first program that managed to make me jump over 40 inches, so I owe my success to it.
Created by coach Jacob Hiller, The Jump Manual has been around since 2007 and has earned its place in the hall of fame.
To this day The Jump Manual has yielded results to thousands of athletes worldwide and has produced an army of 40-inch jumpers like myself.
#3 – BoingVERT
Occupying No. 3 on my list is BoingVert by Shawn Myszka and Kelly Baggett.
BoingVert is a 27-week plan that I just recently finished and, to be honest, I was impressed and disappointed with it at the same time.
On one hand, the program is SUPER comprehensive and covers a huge variety of exercises you could use to improve your vertical.
Seriously, it has a lot of potential for increasing your vertical jump, provided you have enough time to train with it.
However, there are many problems that make it unfit for most athletes, starting with the biggest one – the fact that it’s simply too long and too intense.
The program requires too much of your training budget, so much that you’ll have to sacrifice 80% of your activities just to fit it in.
And considering how long it takes (27 weeks), it’s almost impossible to complete unless you’re an amateur/weekend warrior.
But for most young fellas, who have in-season games and play basketball regularly, this program is just not doable.
For that reason, BoingVert only gets the #3 spot on my list (sorry BV fans).
So now that we’ve gotten down our top vertical jump programs, let me explain in more detail why I chose these three.
My Jump Training Experience
Ever since I’ve started playing basketball at the age of 12, I remember wanting to jump higher.
But my quest was not easy, it was full of ups and downs, and I constantly had to battle with injuries, bad programming, and myself to make it work.
Finding the right vertical program was not an easy thing, it took me years of trial & error to sift out the good ones from all the bad ones, and I’ve spent lots of energy on crappy programs that led to no gains and only wasted my time and hard earned money.
But over the years, I’ve gained enough knowledge to identify the elements required for increasing my vertical jump, and I’ve learned what principles a good program should have in order to be effective.
The problem today with most vertical jump programs is that they’re all done under “perfect situations”.
What do I mean by that?
A perfect situation is when you’re in front of the basket, and you’re all clear to do whatever you want without interference from anyone or anything.
Obviously, that’s not how the game is played.
There’s rarely a case of a perfect situation when you’re in a game, and for that reason, a lot of these jump programs fail to deliver, as they don’t simulate in-game situations.
A 40 or a 50-inch vertical doesn’t really matter if you can’t recreate it during a game.
You need to be able to jump wherever and whenever the time comes.
A good vertical jump training routine is designed in such a way that it helps you jump higher in games and improves your overall performance as an athlete. It’s not about you making a “dunk contest” with yourself on an unguarded basket.
It’s very important that you’ll understand this concept.

These are my top recommended programs for anyone who’s looking to gain serious inches on his vertical and improve his athletic ability.
These are all quality programs which I’ve tested personally and had only a positive outcome with.
Whichever program you choose, remember that at the end of the day, the most important thing is that you actually follow the program and stick to it.
Don’t expect any overnight results and be realistic because, like all great things, it takes time and dedication to improve and reach your goals. Keep that in mind when you choose any of the programs above.
